The discovery of human remains has sparked an investigation in the region where Julian Sands, the acclaimed British actor, vanished.
The San Bernardino County sheriff's department, located in Southern California, anticipates to confirm the identity by the upcoming week, they declared on Saturday.
Sands, a celebrated actor at the age of 65, was reported missing on January 13th while on a trek in the San Gabriel Mountains, located to the north of Los Angeles.
Renowned for his performances in the Academy Award-winning movie "A Room With A View" and popular television series such as "24" and "Smallville," Sands has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.
Additional notable performances include his role in the 2011 film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," where he starred alongside Daniel Craig.
Sands, a native of Otley in West Yorkshire, was last seen in the region known as the Baldy Bowl, amidst inclement weather.
"Recreational trekkers reached out to the Fontana Sheriff's Station following the unearthing of human remains within the wilderness of Mt Baldy," announced the sheriff's department.
The announcement provided no additional information.
The Sands family, earlier this week, expressed their heartfelt thanks "to the dedicated search parties and the individuals coordinating the effort to locate Julian".
They further mentioned, "We continue to carry Julian within our hearts, celebrating vibrant memories of him as an exceptional father, spouse, adventurer, nature and arts enthusiast, as well as a unique and cooperative performer."
